Cosmetic Surgery Eyebrow Transplant

Eyebrows frame our eyes and their shape and style change throughout the years. If the shapes change from full to thin significant loss or sparse eyebrows are usually very noticeable and can be quite upsetting. You can try to make them fuller by using an eyelash enhancer like Marini Eyelash Conditioner or you could have a eyebrow hair transplant.

Hair transplants to the eyebrows are usually done for injury, disease or age, but it may also be done for cosmetic purposes as well. Excessive plucking or genetic thinness limits the ability for the eyebrows to grow. Some women tattoo their eyebrows in because it is simple and quick but unfortunately it often looks unnatural. The tattoo often fades and then the color doesn’t match.

Hair transplants to the eyebrows are a more advanced technique than that used in scalp hair grafting. Individual follicle grafts and precise placement is a detailed procedure to achieve the unique shape and orientation of the eyebrow hairs that can take as long as a scalp hair transplant session. This is key to a natural looking eyebrow.

The orientation of the hairs is different as the hair in the front point upward and the hair at the ends point toward the ears. Grafting may take more than one session to get the best results. Often not all follicles survive the grafting and growth or fullness is not predictable so the second graft session is usually done after one year.

The hair used for the eyebrow transplant comes from the scalp and since most scalp hairs are course the hair is taken from behind the ear. Each eyebrow requires 50-75 hairs and sometimes up to 100 depending on the patient. Because they are scalp hairs they will need to be trimmed regularly. Over time, the scalp hairs will take on traits of eyebrow hairs and the growth will slow down.

Even though the results seem immediate, eyebrow hair transplant follicles will shed. Hair growth will require 3 months to become visible again and up to 6-9 months for the final results. After the procedure there will be some crusting of the eyebrows and slight upper lid swelling or bruising. An ointment will help keep them moist for a few days after the transplant.

Eyebrow transplants require a greater commitment but the results are the most natural and a good long-term solution.
