Cosmetic Surgery Alternative: Cosmeceutics

What is cosmeceutics?

They are products that represent a union between cosmetics and pharmaceutics. These products claim to have immediate and visible results, with the use of powerful substances. For consumers, they are active cosmetics and are often an alternative to plastic surgery.

Cosmeceutical treatment, which uses active ingredients to repair and reconstruct damaged, dull or tired skin. Irregular skin texture and pronounced wrinkles may become more prominent under a stressful life or live near polluted areas. While aging is a natural part of life, imperfect skin need not be.

Cosmeceutics claim to have proven effective with the use of molecules such as peptides, vectorised molecules, natural molecules, vitamins, minerals and alpha hydroxyl acids. Cosmeceutics understand the chronobiology of the skin, studying its biorhythms. Its approach involves an additional step, which helps all skin types.

How does it work?

It is a shock program at night for the skin. This cosmetic born from the latest technology in the genomic and anti-oxidizing field helps to re-establish the harmony of skin cells and enable deficient ones to once again function. A tired cell cannot repair itself unassisted because it's damaged, the cosmeceutical complex enables the cell to immediately repair itself.

Active ingredients such as Japanese Pagoda Tree, rice germ and water lilies eliminate toxins, repair the skin’s barrier function and protect it. Glycolic and salicylic acids provide long-lasting exfoliation throughout the day, which eliminates dead skin cells, boosts cell renewal and decreases wrinkles.

Copper skin care products are also known to have the most important micro-nutrients for tissue repair and is involved in several key functions of the skin:
  • 1. Vital to wound repair processes. A key component of enzyme functions.
  • 2. Stimulates collagen.
  • 3. Improved skin elasticity.
  • 4. Combats free radical and oxidative damage.
Cosmeceutial products are a home-care treatment program that visibly fights aging and works with the skin’s natural cycle to make healthy skin cells by day and detoxify, repair and reconstruct skin by night. The end result is a clear and defined complexion with smoother, healthier and more lustrous skin.

Restylane and Perlane are naturally-occurring injectable agents used for lip enhancement and to soften facial lines and creases. We have found Restylane, Perlane, Juvederm Ultra, and Juvederm Ultra Plus to be very well tolerated, and have yet to encounter an allergic or inflammatory response to any of these products. According to our Allergan representative, our Raleigh, North Carolina Plastic Surgery Practice is one of the top users of Juvederm in the U.S., but we do still use Restylane and Perlane for some patients and we feel confident in the safety and efficacy of both Restylane and Juvederm products.

Restylane and Juvederm do NOT contain any material that does not naturally occur in soft tissues, such as hydroxyapetite or methylmethacrylate, which can result in granuloma (cyst) formation and chronic inflammation. Be VERY wary of injectable agents that contain materials that do not naturally occur in soft tissues, as the risk of these complications is often minimized to patients.

Restylane or Juvederm injections require just a few minutes to perform. The aesthetic improvement is immediate, and in general we will attempt to slightly overfill the lips and overcorrect lines and folds, so that the desired effect remains once the mild initial swelling subsides (in about 24 hours). The goal is an aesthetic improvement that appears natural.

Most injections of Juvederm Ultra or Juvederm Ultra Plus, Restylane or Perlane can be performed with little or no pain by administration of local anesthesia just prior to the injection. Injection of the lips is usually completely painless, using intra-oral anesthesia that produces total numbness of the lips. For injection of lines and creases on the face, a local anesthetic solution is used that causes vasoconstriction, decreasing the likelihood of bruising following the injection. Our aim is to provide an immediate and beautiful aesthetic enhancement, with little or no discomfort and downtime.

The duration of the improvement varies from patient to patient. Some patients have reported ressults of up to a year with Juvederm Untra Plus. Many patients that enjoy the results of their hyaluronic acid treatments become interested in permanent soft tissue enhancement. For these patients, structural fat grafting, using autologous (the patient's own) fat. Using specialized instrumentation and technique, structural fat grafting can produce permanent improvements in facial contours.

Prevelle Silk is a new hyaluronic acid dermal filler that can eliminate wrinkles or create fuller lips instantly. Dr. Michael Lawwww.michaellawmd.com has recently introduced Prevelle Silk into his North Raleigh Plastic Surgery Practice. Prevelle Silk contains lidocaine, a numbing agent that helps minimize discomfort associated with the injection. Prevelle is also unique because it leaves virtually no swelling. People can get an injection in the afternoon and look beautiful just hours later. The cost for Prevele Silk is just $295.00 for a 1 cc injection. results lasts approximately 2-3 months.

I expect that many people who try Prevelle Silk as their first filler will be pleased with the results and may opt for a longer lasting filler like Juvederm, Perlane or Restylane for longer lasting wrinkle reduction or lip plumping in the future. Mentor Corporation, the manufacturer of Prevelle Silk will be introducing other hyaluronic acid based dermal fillers in the near future that promise to have a longer lasting results than Prevelle Silk.

Evolence is a porcine (Pig) derived collagen product used to provide soft tissue augmentation. Although no allergic reactions have been reported with Evolence, there have been several reports of nodule formation in the lips. I am currently not using Evolence in my practice. I feel more comfortable with Juvederm, Restylane or Prevelle Silk for temporary soft tissue augmentation and structural fat grafting for permanent augmentation.

A number of other products are available as soft tissue fillers, but many are as yet inadequately tested, and others have been found in some cases to produce disastrous and permanently disfiguring results, such as injectable silicone. Remember, when considering the injection of a soft tissue filler,be sure that your doctor can explain to you what the substance is, why he or she has chosen it, and what side effects and potential complications can occur. Once again, be very wary of injectable agents that contain materials which do not naturally occur in soft tissues, as the risks of complications can be significant. Mommy Makeovers

Mommy Makeovers are cosmetic surgeries that are redefining the ultimate body after childbirth. Often times, moms are left with excess skin and weight in their breasts, tummies, and hips following pregnancy. Whether it is going back to their previous figure before their pregnancy or enhancing their post-baby physique, surgeons are leaving patients with the body they desire.

The opportunity to feel empowered and to have the look they always wanted is now at a patient’s fingertips. Women cannot even begin to describe how wonderful and liberating it is not to be ashamed of their bodies anymore. Finally it is representative of all the effort they put into maintaining their figures after the birth of my children.

In post pregnancy women, these desired changes frequently involve those to the breasts and tummy. Breastfeeding will often leave women with flat or deflated breasts. Luckily, patients have access to a variety of customized treatments including a breast augmentation, breast lift and/or combination of the two. In addition to these changes, pregnancy can take its toll on the abdomen area by leaving stretched excess skin or tummy pouches that can be repaired with surgery.

Pre-operative weight reduction is essential when the weight is a recent addition, such as during pregnancy. The right time for surgery is when a patient is at a stable weight. Excessive, unsustainable weight loss prior to surgery, which can not be maintained may lead to recurrence of tummy bulges after surgery.

A tummy tuck, abdominoplasty also can remove stretch marks and excess skin in the lower abdomen below the belly button. Liposuction may be used to improve the contour of the hips. A tummy tuck may narrow the waist, but not the hips.

Patients will often combine breast, liposuction and/or tummy tucks to achieve their complete Mommy Makeover.

Face Lift/Brow Lift Cosmetic Surgery

As I stated in my face surgery post, my experience with a brow lift, I think not knowing what to expect during and after surgery was the most upsetting. Also, I was never forewarned about the long-term affects.

1. Ask Questions
2. Make sure your doctor is experienced and certified
3. Read up on the surgery.

During my experience I learned the extent of the incision and the long term affect of the numbness on top/sides of my head. Yes, I still have numbness after 8 years. Also you can feel the suture knots and they are occasionally tender. On and around the scar line I have lost hair. Not that I had a lot to begin with :(

A brow lift or forehead lift smoothes out the forehead, while raising the eyebrows and reducing the frown lines. It is the least complicated, less painful of all cosmetic surgeries. A brow lift erases the effects of aging and leaves a smoother younger appearance.

A face lift or rhytidectomy is a procedure that removes excess fat, tightening facial muscles and readjusting the facial skin. A face lift maybe done in combination with other facial procedures, such as a brow lift, eyelid, nose or neck lift cosmetic surgery. A face lift is highly individualized and unique to your bone structure, skin texture and underlying muscle tone. It does not improve skin texture, although it can be in conjunction with a laser or chemical peel.

A face lift takes several hours to complete and the incisions begin above the hairline at the temple, go behind the ear and end behind the earlobe in the lower scalp. The skin is separated from the underlying fat and pulled back. Excess skin will be removed. Dressing are applied to decrease bruising and swelling. Vigorous activity should be avoided for at least two weeks for both a face and blow lift

You may shower once the bandages are removed, but be very careful when you wash your hair. Do not brush or comb your suture area. You will need to make a routine follow-up visit, including removal of your stitches. A couple weeks most of your bruising and swelling should go down and you can return to your normal activities. Please avoid direct sun exposure post-op to protect your skin and maintain your results.

After 8 years, I still have a smooth forehead. Despite what I have experienced above, I am still happy with the results of my brow lift cosmetic surgery.

Labiaplasty Plastic Surgery

In a labiaplasty, the surgical reshaping of female external genital structures, larger or uneven inner vaginal lips are cut and shortened. Labiaplasty and vaginal cosmetic surgery are the fastest growing emerging growth trend in cosmetic plastic surgery. Physicians that perform vaginal cosmetic surgery have reported enormous increases in patients, particularly over the past decade.

As society pressures women to look younger and more perfect, many physicians believe the popularity of these types of surgeries will continue to grow.

Labiaplasty was once the domain of sex workers, nude entertainers, nude models, swimsuit models and the occasional woman who needed her labia reduced for medical reasons (labiaplasty might be covered under health insurance)such as infection or pain. Not anymore. Doctors have reported that women from every walk of life and from ages 15 to 75 are having labia and cosmetic vaginal surgery.

Many doctors who perform the surgeries say while there are some women who opt for the surgery because they are unhappy or their labia has caused them physical discomfort, the bulk of the women getting this surgery are ultimately being pressured by men who want them to conform to a idea of beauty most often seen in the porn industry. Doctors say these women request the procedure because they are afraid of having "old looking" vaginas. Feedback from male partners is the number one reason women request the surgery.

The most common reason we hear is that they have had a negative comment made by a male sexual partner. Women are made to feel that they are not perfect the way they are and often it's the partner that sets this off.

Women are having labiaplasties and other forms of vaginal cosmetic surgery because longer, lose hanging inner lips is a sign of aging and women don't want to look old there, either.

Youth-enhancing surgery is very common now. Why should it stop with the face? Girls 20 to 30 years old now want every part of their body to look as young as they are.

Another cosmetic surgery--vaginal rejuvenation--is also rising. It entails tightening the vaginal and perineum area, often stretched during childbirth. Some doctors also claim it increases sexual pleasure for both partners.

Some doctors dispute whether constructing a tighter vagina increases a woman's sexual pleasure. But anytime you make an incision you cut nerves, induce scarring and there is a downside risk, including pain.

In addition to the physical risks, critics cite the more insidious psychological ramifications, whether women get the surgery or not. "Before" and "after" photos that are on normal, healthy bodies alongside surgically streamlined ones — readily available online — promote the impression that so-called aberrations are abnormal, when in reality genitals are as diverse as faces or fingerprints. The focus on a quick fix, puts even more pressure on women's sex lives.

Long-term consequences are troubling. Women are projecting their anxiety about sexuality onto this one thing: 'If only I could get this fixed, then I would feel confident to be sexual.' This is a complicated issue.

Less risky alternatives to cosmetic surgery should be considered for boosting confidence and enhancing sex. Sometimes psychotherapy can help -- be it talk therapy to discuss the normal woman-to-woman body variations or marriage or sex therapy to resolve conflict between partners and revitalize their lovemaking.

Many factors may be at play when a woman has a sub-par sex life. They shouldn't feel embarrassed to talk to their health care providers about whether depression or another medical illness is suppressing their sex drive, or whether medications such as antidepressants and hormonal therapies may be to blame.

Don't count on Kegel exercises to tighten the vagina. The method -- in which women practice contracting the muscles used to stop urine flow -- is more likely to improve bladder control than to make sex more satisfying.

But when non-surgical approaches fall short and women are considering vaginal cosmetic surgery as the next resort, a surgeon needs to ensure that the risks are made clear. The procedures can not only fail to meet a woman's expectations for a perfect private part, but in the long term can end up causing pain instead of pleasure during sex.

Men like the results of the surgery because it makes for a tighter fit and women like it, say doctors who perform it, because, well, it makes for a tighter fit. Some doctors advertise that the surgery can radically enhance a woman’s sexual experience, but there is no guarantee.

Hymen-recreation is important to some women; young rape victims can also be given recreated hymens. This surgery is called hymenoplasty, also known as revirgination, a surgical procedure which reattaches the hymen.

The latest in juicy bit augmentation is the G-spot enhancement. Techniques for this vary but the point is to plump up the G-spot to make it more prominent, easier to find and more easily stimulated by a penis. Some surgeon use hyaluronic acid, the fluid that lubricates our joints. (It is also used in cosmetic procedures as a skin filler to erase wrinkles.), while others use collagen injections.

Whatever surgeries you decide to have, make sure you have your own reasons and find a qualified surgeon to perform the procedure. Don’t have vaginal cosmetic surgery for someone else or it might be time to find a new partner.

Liposuction Cosmetic Surgery

Liposuction is one of the most common surgeries performed. This procedure removes fat by suctioning it with a thin tube, using small incisions that can usually be placed in very inconspicuous locations. It is important to understand that liposuction is not a weight loss procedure. If you are overweight before the surgery, you’ll still be overweight after the surgery, but will look slimmer. Liposuction is ideal for removing localized fat deposits, especially those that do not disappear no matter how much you diet or exercise, including the face, neck, stomach, hips, thighs, buttocks, arms, and calves. Even patients who are thin and physically fit often have spots that are troublesome, such as the inner or outer thighs, the roll beneath the rear, or the hips. Liposuction might help you to feel more comfortable wearing bathing suits or other clothing.

You may have heard about various options and techniques pertaining to liposuction, such as “tumescent technique,” “ultrasonic liposuction,” or “power-assisted liposuction.” These terms refer to the way a plastic surgeon prepares the fat to be suctioned, and the way it is actually removed.

The Tumescent Liposuction Procedure

Tumescent liposuction surgery is essentially the same as traditional liposuction with one exception. In tumescent liposuction, fluid is introduced to the areas of fat to be liposuctioned prior to beginning the suctioning. This fluid is a mixture that contains saline, epinephrine, and local anesthetic. This fluid helps to reduce pain and bleeding and also helps the surgeon remove the fat more easily. This results in less bruising and an easier recovery.

The Ultrasonic Liposuction Procedure

This system uses a specialized cannula that delivers ultrasonic energy into the patient’s tissue to liquefy areas of targeted fat just prior to their removal. Because the ultrasonic waves target only fat, the surrounding tissues — nerves, blood vessels, and collagen fibers — remain intact. This means less discomfort, swelling, bruising, and a faster recovery time for patients. In addition, because ultrasonic liposuction is selective to fatty tissue, the result is smoother and more natural-looking than that achieved by earlier liposuction techniques.

The Power-Assisted Liposuction Procedure

Power-Assisted liposuction uses a motorized cannula that moves back and forth independently, requiring less exertion by the surgeon. This dramatically reduces surgeon fatigue by facilitating passage through difficult fibrous and scarred tissues. While this technique still requires skill and artistry on the part of the surgeon, the procedure’s automated aspects reduce the amount of physical effort exerted by the surgeon. Therefore, more of the surgeon’s attention and energy can be directed to sculpting efforts. Power-assisted liposuction is also gentler on the patient’s tissues, causing less bruising, swelling, and discomfort and hastening recovery times. Many surgeons feel this procedure facilitates precise sculpting of the tissues, leading to superior aesthetics post-operative.

Other Liposuction Procedures Offered are:

Autologous Fat Transfer

Autologous fat transfer, commonly called fat injection or fat grafting, is actually a combination of two procedures performed during a single visit. Also known as microlipoinjection, autologous fat transfer involves gently harvesting fat from body regions with unsightly localized fat deposits and then injecting the purified fat into areas of depressions, irregularities, and asymmetries.

To begin autologous fat transfer, the patient is placed under anesthesia, either local or general (IV) sedation. Then, Dr. Fodor harvests fat cells from an area with surplus fat. The cells are washed to separate healthy fat cells from other fluids, and the fat is injected into the over-suctioned area, where it fills and smoothes the contour. Patients experience only minor discomfort, swelling, and bruising after the procedure.

The most marked benefit of fat injection is that it carries no risk of rejection or allergic reaction, since the filler material comes from the patient’s own body. Though a portion of the fat injected may be reabsorbed by the body, a substantial amount remains in place permanently.

Lipoplasty-Only Breast Reduction

Breast reduction is a tremendously rewarding and often medically necessary procedure. When traditional methods are used, it is also associated with extensive scarring (often an anchor-shaped scar). The most minimally invasive technique —although currently a highly underutilized one — is lipoplasty-only breast reduction, which reduces the volume of the breast through lipoplasty alone, with careful sculpting of the breast tissue by removal of the excess fat.. This form of breast reduction surgery is performed through an incision less than ½” inch in length, which is placed in the fold under the breast. It heals with a barely visible or invisible scar.

To ascertain that a patient is a good candidate for, a preoperative mammogram is routinely reviewed by your plastic surgeon, to determine the percentage of fatty tissue in each patient’s breasts, which is seldom less than 50%. Though not all women seeking breast reduction are good candidates, some plastic surgeons believe this approach could be selected for many more patients.

It is critical that you consult a certified plastic surgeon if you are considering liposuction, or any other cosmetic surgical procedure, rather than other doctors who may advertise that they do liposuction. The keys to a good outcome include the doctor’s ability to determine whether liposuction is indeed the best option for a given problem or patient, or whether other procedures might be more effective. Doctors who have taken a weekend liposuction course don’t have the skills that a board-certified plastic surgeon does. Also important is the surgeon’s ability, training, and experience. Finally, in the unlikely event that a complication occurs, you’d want a fully-trained and experienced physician caring for you, to make sure your end result is as good as possible.

Make sure you understands the options and consequences fully, and what you are truly trying to achieve with your liposuction surgery.

Cosmetic Upper/Lower Eyelid Surgery

The area surrounding the eyes is one of the first to show the signs of aging. Eyelid cosmetic surgery, or blepharoplasty, can correct sagging and drooping upper eyelids as well as the bags that form just below the eyes. Eyelid surgery can be very dramatic, taking away years of aging, and giving your eyes a smoother and more youthful appearance.

The surgeon begins eyelid surgery by making incisions along the natural creases of the upper lid, and/or directly under the lower eyelashes. These incision lines heal beautifully and are rarely detectable. The excess skin and fat is removed and the surgeon then re drapes the skin, leaving it smooth. Eyelid surgery lasts anywhere from one to three hours and is usually performed on an outpatient basis. If more than one procedure is done an over night stay is recommended.

In some cases, a surgeon may opt for transconjunctival blepharoplasty. The surgeon makes incisions on the lower eyelid and removes pockets of fat. This form of eyelid surgery is ideal for patients with less pronounced bags under the eyes, and leaves no visible scar.

Following eyelid surgery, an antibiotic ointment is applied to the eyelids. The eyes will feel tight, although medication alleviates much of this discomfort. The head should be kept elevated for several days after eyelid surgery. Application of a cold compress or crushed ice will minimize swelling and bruising (frozen peas placed into an inexpensive "Ziploc" type baggie works very well as a cold compress).

Some surgeons recommend a homeopathic preparation of vitamins and herb to reduce swelling and bruising. Some suggests that you take the herbal supplements, Arnica Montana and Bromelain.
The sutures are removed within a week to 10 days of the eyelid surgery. Showering may not be permitted until the sutures are removed. Most patients can return to work at that time, but must take care to protect the eyes from harmful contact and irritants.

Prior to surgery, a specialist may preform an eye exam. Visual field testing may be recommended to determine whether blepharoplasty would be cosmetic (to improve appearance) or functional (to improve vision). If a person's vision is limited due to excess upper eyelid skin, insurance may provide coverage. Financing maybe also available through Capital One Healthcare Finance or CareCredit Healthcare Finance.

It is important that you understand not only the positive effect of eyelid surgery, but also the limitations of what surgery can do for you. Changing any facial feature is a very significant decision and you should feel comfortable before opting for any cosmetic eyelid surgery.

Herb Supplement Information: Check with your plastic surgeon before taking any supplements.

Arnica, taken before surgery, helps strengthen the system; after surgery, and promotes recovery. It helps to reduce swelling and bruising. Arnica is available over the counter in various potencies, in both liquid and tablet form. . VitaMedica Arnica Montana 30x, 250 tablets

Bromelain is ideal for patients undergoing a surgical procedure such as blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery). It contains specific nutrients that are useful for control of inflammation and reduction of post-operative swelling. Vitmedica Bromelain with Quercetin Nutrients with Anti-Inflammatory Properties, 60 Capsules

Just remember there are herbal supplements you need to discontinue at least two weeks prior and two weeks after surgery. Tell your surgeon what medication and herbal supplements you are taking. Some supplements adversely affect cosmetic eyelid surgery.

My Face Surgery

In the summer of 2000 I decided to have surgery on my face. I took a cruise with my daughter that spring and my pictures were horrible. The most noticeable was my eyes. My upper lids were very droopy. So, I made an appointment with a local plastic surgeon.

On the day of our consult he suggested that I get a brow lift (had lines across my forehead, something I inherited from my father), lower eye and a bump on my nose he wanted to shave down. Lucky me. I agreed to all that, so pictures were taken and a down payment was made.

When I got to the hospital they asked me if I wanted to spend the night for another $600+. I agreed to that too, boy I was easy. But it was the best decision I made all day. The surgery took maybe 4 hours. I don't remember too much of that night. My family came to see me. My nephew was just a baby, but my sister-in-law said I scarred him for life. Apparently, I was in bad shape, since I couldn't open my eyes but a smidgen because they were so swollen and I had bandages wrapped around my head. I do remember trying to make it to the bathroom during the night not only were my eyes swollen, my sight was also blurred. Could you imagine if I was home?

The next day I did go home and went straight to bed. My daughter had to feed me for two days and bring me ice every hour. With the antibiotic ointment they gave me along with ice my bruising was minimal. By the 5th day I was much better and I wanted to shower reallllly bad. But I couldn't until my stitches came out and that was on the 10th day. Good thing I learned how to take a sponge bath with my breast reduction. (see my breast reduction post).

Back to the PS or plastic surgeon I didn't realize I had to have my stitches pulled out by the corner of my eyes. Not as bad as the ones taken out of my chest, but still not a very pleasant feeling. I still have scars at the corner of my eyes.

The BIG thing they did not tell me prior to my surgery was that I would have a surgical scar from ear to ear and that they pulled my face away and my scalp (don't know why). To this day, a little over 8 years, I still am numb on the top of my head. Guess you could literally call me a numbskull. Also with this scar are the remnants of the knots from the stitches that I think I will have for life. These knots can hurt from time to time and I've lost some hair around the scar site.

Would I do it again? Right after surgery, I said I would never do it again. NO how NO way. Over time you forget the pain. My eyelids are starting to droop again, so if you wanted to know if it lasts forever. Nope. My lower eyes, brow and nose are still in good shape. Well my nose is a little crooked, but the PS thought it was fine. Ok, its fine till I smile! No wrinkles, except for where I had some Restylane (but again that's another story).

Did I answer that question? Hey, if you want to donate a $1.00 for my droopy eyelid surgery, it would be appriciated. Well, I guess I did :) Thanks for checking out my website.

Breast Lift with or without Augmentation, Cosmetic Surgery

The major difference between a breast lift and breast reduction cosmetic surgery is that a breast reduction cosmetic surgery will reduce the overall breast volume and make the breast mounds smaller. A breast lift does not necessarily require that any breast tissue be removed. In fact, some cosmetic breast lift operations are also performed while placing implants for breast augmentation.

Over time, the natural aging process can cause a woman's breasts to sag and lose their shape and firmness. These changes can also result from pregnancy, breast-feeding, weight fluctuations, and heredity. A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a cosmetic surgical procedure that reshapes and lifts a woman's breasts. After the breast lift a women can expect firmer, shapelier and more youthful looking breasts.

A breast lift, or mastopexy, lifts and reshapes the breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue. Sometimes the areola (area around the nipple) becomes enlarged over time and may be reduced to keep it in proportion with the rest of the body.

A breast lift may be appropriate for a female breast that:

* Has lost firmness and skin elasticity
* Sags
* Has a flat, elongated shape
* Has stretched skin and an enlarged areola
* Has a nipple that falls below the breast crease
* Has a nipple and areola that point downward

The surgeon makes an anchor shaped incision along the natural contour of the breast. Working through this incision, the surgeon sculpts the skin and tissue and repositions the nipple to give the breast a new and youthful appearance. Breast lift is usually done on an outpatient basis. It is usually done under general anesthesia, and lasts from one to two hours.

Cessation of all nicotine products is strongly urged three weeks pre and post operatively. Smoking before or following breast lift surgery increases the visibility of scarring and causes problems with healing.

An alternative procedure is the Donut Breast Lift. A "doughnut breast lift" or "donut breast lift" can also be performed, which requires less tissue removal and involves a much quicker recovery time. In this breast lift procedure, the surgeon makes a circular incision around the areola, and a doughnut shaped area of skin is removed. The remaining skin is tightened which lifts the breasts.

Surgeons can also reduce the size of the areola during the procedure. Breast size and your skin quality are determining factors in breast appearance following surgery. It is important for patients to discuss their expectations for the surgery with the surgeon.

You can also have a breast lift with augmentation. Women that have lost firmness can also increase their breast size. Breast implants are added to enhance the size of the breasts. Breast lift with implants is usually done on an outpatient basis.

After surgery you may be asked to wear a support bra for several weeks.Marena Surgical Bra with 2" Elastic Band (F5 Certified Compression Garment)

You may be able to return to work within a week, but avoid any heavy lifting, vigorous exercise as this can stress the incisions and lead to complications such as delayed wound healing or prominent scars. Kelo-cote Scar Gel

The ultimate size of the breast is mainly a personal decision by you. Saying one wants to increase the cup size is inaccurate and is not always reflected in surgery. The best way to pick the correct size is to view photos shown by the physician. The photos will provide a visual idea of how your breasts will finally appear on you.

The surgeon may also demonstrate a breast implant and show you the size, which can be obtained by filling the prosthesis with some liquid. One may place the implant under the bra and get a rough idea what the final image will be like. Every surgeon has a visual of what he or she think is a “pretty breast.” Make sure you agree before having your cosmetic surgery.

Breast Augmentation Cosmetic Surgery

Breast Augmentation or Breast Enlargement is a cosmetic surgical procedure used to increase the size of a woman's breasts using either saline, silicone gel breast implants or cohesive gel (gummy bear) breast implants. Women may choose to have breast augmentation either to enhance their figure, to balance different sized breasts, or to balance the contours of the body. Whatever the specific purpose, women who undergo breast augmentation can expect larger, firmer, and more visually satisfying breasts. Which will boost your self-confidence by giving you the figure you have always desired.

The Best Breast 2: The Ultimate Discriminating Woman's Resource for Breast Augmentation

What's the difference between saline and silicone gel breast implants?

The two types of breast implants differ in material and consistency. Saline-filled breast implants consist of a silicone shell that's filled with saline during implant surgery, after the shell has been inserted and is in place. Silicone gel implants also consist of a silicone outer shell, but they're pre-filled with a silicone gel rather than saline.

Silicone gel has a viscosity — a thick, sticky fluid consistency — that closely mimics human fat, which is a large component of female breast tissue. Saline, on the other hand, isn't compressible and gives a more firm impression.

Some women claim that silicone gel-filled breast implants look and feel more like natural breast tissue. Saline-filled implants have been criticized for feeling hard or unnatural, although improved surgical techniques — such as placing the implant behind the chest muscle and slightly overfilling it — have lessened these complaints.

Gummy Bear Implants are being in the US under a clinical trial for the next six months before final approve from the FDA. Instead of the implants being filled with saline or a liquid silicone gel, the 410 cohesive gel breast implants are filled with a cohesive silicone that is described as a "soft solid". Therefore, one of the main advantages of the breast implants is that they seem to retain their shape.

The surgery begins with an incision made either in the crease underneath the breast, the armpit, or the perimeter of the areola (nipple). A pocket is created either under the breast tissue or under the chest muscle. The implants are placed in this pocket.

A revolutionary no-visible-scar cosmetic surgery is a quicker, virtually bloodless technique with shorter recovery period. The entire operation is done through the body's one natural scar, the belly button, without the need to scar the breast or any other area ("no tell-tale scars"). Ask your plastic surgeon if he performs this type of operation.Kelo-cote Scar Gel

Once the incisions are closed and taped a surgical bra is applied.
Marena Surgical Bra with 2" Elastic Band (F5 Certified Compression Garment)
Normal light activity can be possible within a day or two (depending on how you feel). The swelling becomes undetectable in a few months. The stitches will dissolve on their own in time.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with taking a week off work if that is what you want to do, but you can just as easily go out to dinner the night of your surgery. Hold off on cardio for a couple weeks and heavy lifting, pulling/pushing should be avoided for up to six weeks.

If you're thinking about getting breast implants, be sure to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Get both verbal and printed information on saline-filled and silicone gel-filled breast implants. Based on your body type, your surgeon may recommend one type of implant over another for optimal cosmetic results. Either type of breast implant is safe, but ultimately the decision to have cosmetic surgery is up to you.

About Me

Kat: About Me

A little bit about who I am, and what I am into

I live north of Indianapolis in a town called Fishers. I've lived here since 1994.
Originally from Sandusky, OH, I miss being close to the water. Lake Erie has a chain of
islands. They include Kelleys Island, Pelee Island, the Bass Islands, and several others. , a great place for a vacation or just a day or weekend get away. The village of Put-in-Bay is on South Bass Island. It is a popular tourist stop during the summer and my favorite island.

A tiny two by four mile island dotted with historic homes, the nation's third tallest monument, quaint restaurants and local pubs. Beautiful water surrounds Put in Bay where you will find the best walleye and perch fishing in the United States. You can relax and explore or sit in a pub and listen to music which plays from 2pm-1am. If you haven't been there, you should check it out.

When I moved here my daughter was only 14 years old. Now a young married lady of 25, with 2 girls.

As you can see the girls take after their mother with their red hair. She is married to Craig. Craig has a son from a previous relationship, Charles. Charles (Charley) is 8 years old.

I took the oldest girl, Kate, now 4 years, old to Disney World in fall of 2007.
Mickeys Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is celebrated every year from late September to late October. It features a Boo-to-You Parade, trick or treating throughout the park and all the characters are dressed up as are the children(and some adults). It also has one of the best firework displays I've ever seen.

Kate likes Tigger as much as I do. We are planning on another trip next year when the youngest, Kristie will be almost 2 1/2. What fun.

Since my daughter moved out, I now live alone with three cats. Max is 16, Luna is 15 and Baby is 8. Max is a red American tabby and he is the man of the house. He is getting up there and I will miss him when he goes. Luna is a tortishell and Baby is mostly black with white on her paws and on her chest.

Baby of course is my favorite and she knows it. She is the only one I will allow on my desk while I am working. Work for me is mostly out of town about every week of the year. And they miss me as I do them. I hoped you liked reading about me and thank you for visiting my website.

As far as cosmetic surgery, I’ve had a few. Breast reduction, brow lift, upper eye lids (twice), lower eye removed fat, rhinoplasty, laser treatments, botox, fillers. I might not be a professional, but I can tell you by experience how these procedures worked for me.
